Ray & Tuda Lungren
In the summer of 2008, Ann was notified about a widow living in west Argentine needing help with her retaining wall. Her wall was falling down and the lot next to her home was about 4 foot lower than her property. She had about 3 foot of ground from the basement wall of her house to where the retaining wall was falling. She was worried if the ground kept wearing away that her foundation would fall in and her home would no longer be habitable. This little lady has an income barely over $700 a month. Ann, found a contractor with a bobcat and a heart of gold to repair her wall for free. The contractor put in a wall of concrete, like the dividers they use on bridges. He dug out the wall, stacked the dividers on their side and filled in behind with dirt. It has made a very attractive addition to her home and such a safe feeling. While working with this lady, when the ground settled, this summer of 2009, ANDA replaced her fence with the black covered wire fencing surrounding her back yard. During the summer of 2009, ANDA helped this lady apply for the Weatherization program. She met all of the qualifications and now is in the process with this program of having her home insulated. A month ago, the Weatherization program installed a new furnace in her home. The men that are working at her home told her that when the new windows come in they will replace the windows in her home. Now there is an Appliance program through the government and ANDA helped in filling out those papers with her and she is waiting to hear if she will receive a new washing machine. Persons that have applied will be notified after January 15, 2010. She at first felt that her washing machine was working and that maybe she should not apply. She found her papers on her machine and it is 20 years old. With a little nudging from ANDA she decided to fill out the papers and see if she could possibly get a new washer. Without the help of ANDA, this little widow lady would have serious problems in her home. She smiles and laughs now and is so happy. She says she doesn’t deserve all this but that she is sure happy to be so fortunate as to have all this help from ANDA. What a difference ANDA has made in this little lady’s life. |
